Black and white roses. Your Flower Budget

Your Flower Budget
The one question find hardest to answer is “What should I set aside for my floral budget? Will my flowers be mediocre if I give my florist a budget that’s too low, and what is considered too low?”
It’s best to begin working with a professional planner. The planner takes your vision and expectations and orchestrates a team of vendors catered to your style and budget. After meeting with several vendors from each category, you make a choice based on the provider who will complement your style, produce the desired vision of your special day, and stay within budget.
If a professional planner is not in your budget, discuss your priorities with the groom. Most budgets are broken down into three categories:
1. “Flowers are very important — this is a huge factor in our event.”
2. “Quality is important. We want our flowers to be beautiful but it doesn’t have to be extravagant.”
3. “Flowers are not that important — we just want something small and simple.”
The average price range for wedding flowers is between $2,500.00 to $4,000.00, depending on the size of your wedding party and reception. If your estimated budget is $2,000.00 or less and you’re accommodating 200 people, you may need to consider hiring a professional to assemble your bouquets and ceremony décor but you may need to make your own centerpieces.

Before you meet with floral designers, I recommend organizing ideas on an inspiration board. Start with a color scheme and provide swatches. Compile images of your favorite bouquet and centerpieces, but limit the images, as too many choices may be overwhelming. It may be a good idea to have three different centerpiece ideas: the first being your favorite dream piece, the second and third choices to conform to your budget.

Know your numbers. For example, know how many bouquets, boutonnières, corsages and centerpieces are needed. Your prospective florist will need these numbers to determine the estimated cost. Be honest about what you are willing to spend and discuss concerns and priorities. A floral estimate will likely be more than you expected to spend. Contemplate what can be eliminated or areas where you are willing to scale back. Keep in mind that a lower budget may sacrifice the designer’s work and subsequently your overall vision.

Hiring a professional florist does provide peace of mind on your wedding day. Not only will your flowers be beautifully crafted and delivered as specified, but also this person will deal with the unexpected circumstances of two forces controlled by Mother Nature…live flowers and weather.
